The Burke Center Launches Sneaker Drive Fundraiser to Raise Money to support mental health programs and services.

The Burke Center Launches Sneaker Drive Fundraiser to Raise Money to support mental health programs and services.

Tunkhannock, PA, 2022 – The Burke Center (www.burkecenter.org) is holding an ongoing athletic shoe drive fundraise to raise money for mental health programs and services.  The Burke Center will earn funds based on the total quantity of gently worn, used, and new sneakers collected. GotSneakers, a social enterprise, will issue funds in compensation for the collected sneakers. Those funds will benefit The Burke Center’s mental health programs and services. Anyone can help by simply donating gently worn, used, and new sneakers.

GotSneakers has developed a unique fundraising program that asks communities to reach into their closets, not their pockets! The sneaker recycling program helps keeps sneakers out of landfills, which has harmful effects on our environment, and helps organizations like ours raise much needed funds. The program is truly a win – win! Learn more about GotSneakers by visiting their website at www.gotsneakers.com.

“We are excited about our sneaker drive fundraiser, it’s such a unique opportunity for our organization to raise money,” said Jessica Burke, Executive Director.

“We know that most people have extra sneakers in their closets they would like to donate rather than throw away. By doing so, we raise money for The Burke Center and help the environment. It’s a win – win for everyone!”

If you have sneakers you would like to donate, they can be dropped off at The Burke Center during regular business hours:

2022: The Year of The Burke Center – A look into the future!

The vision of The Burke Center began in 2015 when Executive Director Jessica Burke, along with Operations Coordinator Donald Nowland (Miller) began to carryout Jessica’s dream of owning her own practice. The Burke Center opened it’s doors and began seeing patients on January 4th, 2016.

Over the next year Burke and Nowland (Miller) would begin the grueling process of obtaining an outpatient clinic license from the Department of Human Services and the Office of Mental Health & Substance Abuse Services. This license allowed for The Burke Center to expand it’s current service offering and begin offering not only outpatient therapy, but outpatient psychiatric services.

The Burke Center cycled through their fair share of psychiatrists, physician assistances, outpatient therapists, and administrative staff. There have been a lot of growing pains and well to be frank they aren’t going away anytime soon as our agency continues to grow daily. However, growing pains are a normal part of business growth and don’t have to have adverse effects if managed appropriately. The vision of The Burke Center has always been and will always be to provide our patients with the highest level of care possible. Over the past few years due to various staffing issues along with staff availability our reputation that once made us feel like we were standing on top of the world has plummeted to levels in which we are not proud of. The Burke Center has been allowed to deviate from its original mission and vision to pacify and retain staff members and/or providers who didn’t share the same visions as Burke and Nowland (Miller).

This year The Burke Center makes a promise to the community where it is located and the patients, we serve that we are going to do better, we are going to become the place where everyone wants to seek treatment for their mental illness. We will once again be the place where everyone tells their family to go. We promise our patients and our community that we will not be influenced for the sake of retaining a staff member or provider. We will honor our vision and our promise to our patients and community. We started this agency with YOU in mind and it’s time to put YOU in the forefront again. If you have visited our agency in the past and had a poor experience, we invite you to give us a second chance. Let us prove to you that we are dedicated to you and improving your mental health.

Over the course of this year, we hope to host mental health awareness events, attend local community events, make sure that our voice is heard in the provider community and make sure YOUR voice is heard as our patient, as our friend , and as our supporter! We are dedicated to raising mental health awareness, normalization and breaking the stigma surrounding mental health! We will be conducting various fundraiser throughout the year, having opportunities to volunteer and so much more! Please join us or sit back and watch us to rise from the land of negative perception and become the superior mental health treatment center we once were. We will once again be the first choice for mental healthcare in our area!

We would like to thank everyone who has taken the time read this article, we would appreciate if you would share this with your friends and or family members to help spread the word that The Burke Center is BACK and better than ever!
